The most common Types of engines
1. Internal combustion engines
In these engines, fuel combustion takes place inside the engine and this causes pressure to increase and temperature to rise.
As a result of combustion, the high pressure produced is applied to rotor, pistons or a nozzle and it’s the same power that moves your vehicle from one place to another and transforms chemical energy to useful mechanical energy. Very good examples are two-stroke and four-stroke petrol and diesel engines
2. External combustion engine
In these engines, fuel combustion takes place outside the engine and steam engine is a great example
In an external combustion engine (EC engine) is a heat engine where a working fluid, contained internally, is heated by combustion in an external source, through the engine wall or a heat exchanger. The fluid then, by expanding and acting on the mechanism of the engine, produces motion and usable work.
